The Disaster Resilience and Disability Inclusion Project (DRDI), funded by the Moody Foundation, works with Centers for Independent Living (CILs) in Houston, Beaumont, Galveston, and Corpus Christi.
Our goal is to make sure people with disabilities are better prepared for disasters and receive the support they need. Through this project, we will:
- Host focus groups to understand challenges people with disabilities faced living through disasters
- Offer opportunities to learn how to prepare for emergencies at home.
- Build stronger connections between emergency management organizations and CILs to ensure people living with disabilities are supported properly during disasters

Disaster Resilience and Disability Inclusion Project Needs Assessment
The SILC Disaster Resilience and Disability Inclusion Project Needs Assessment captured the voices of the Gulf Coast disability community through focus groups to understand their unique experiences living through disasters. This needs assessment serves as a guiding document for the project and provides recommendations for what CILs can do to be more involved with disaster preparedness and emergency management at the regional level.
