On April 26th, CBFL proudly hosted its 2nd Annual Adaptive Living Solutions Expo at the George R. Brown Convention Center and the event was nothing short of a resounding success. Doubling in size from its inaugural year, the expo attracted hundreds of attendees from across the Houston area, all eager to explore innovative solutions that support independence for people with disabilities.

This year’s growth was evident not only in the number of attendees but in the expansion of our vendor showcase. We were honored to welcome an extraordinary lineup of partners offering hands-on adaptive sports experiences that stole the spotlight. From accessible skateboarding ramps and thrilling wheelchair basketball matches to the exhilarating ride of hand-crank bikes, attendees of all ages had the chance to experience the possibilities of adaptive recreation firsthand. These activities weren’t just fun, they were a powerful reminder that life with a disability can still be full of movement, excitement, and joy.
Another highlight was our hearing aid clinic, where consumers were able to receive hearing evaluations and fittings all in real time. This critical resource helped many begin their journey toward better hearing and improved quality of life. The tears shared on this day were a joyous reminder of the impact we have on the lives of those we serve.
One of the most powerful moments of the day came during our roundtable discussion, where voices from across the disability spectrum came together in candid conversation. Participants shared raw emotions and reflections as they navigated the various stages of adjusting to life with a disability or as a caregiver. Alongside them were long-time advocates and individuals who have lived with disabilities for many years, offering insight, encouragement, and community. Professionals who provide essential support services from physical therapy to durable medical equipment, also joined the discussion, painting a complete picture of what it means to adapt, heal, and thrive.
But what truly sets CBFL’s expo apart is the power of our purchasing program. Unlike traditional expos where adaptive equipment is showcased but often financially out of reach, we empower individuals and families to take action. Here, attendees could initiate the process to acquire the very equipment and technology they explored on the show floor. Through strategic partnerships, we took the dream of independence and helped make it a reality.
CBFL’s 2nd Annual Adaptive Living Solutions Expo brought together all of its locations, HCIL, FBCIL, and BCCIL, proving the power of community can help open doors for individuals with disabilities and their families. It was a day of discovery, empowerment, and connection and a bold step forward in our mission to make independence possible for all.
